Denham August 2021

Ivo and Lucy, L/C
After parting from the group near the entrance to Shark Bay Ivo and I carried on to Denham – the most westerly settlement in Australia, it was originally a pearling camp named ‘Freshwater’ which was proclaimed a town in 1898 named after Capt.Henry Denham of the Royal Navy
We stayed two night at the Denham Seaside Caravan Park – very friendly staff and very nice new clean facilities
During the two days we visited the Ocean Park Aquarium where a marine scientist took us on a fun and highly educational tour – he also tried to feed the sharks but they did not seem very hungry – and the guide assured us that sharks are not as dangerous as what they are made out to be – don’t know about that
Denham also has a very interesting childrens playground all made from recycled wood and material from the old jetty – this made it very unique and rustic (I wish other shires would take a leaf out of Denhams Shires book)
We also visited Monkey Mia, part of Francois Peron National Park and the amazing Shell Beach – covered in shells for 60 km and is 7 – 10 mt in depth – it is only one of a handful of places on earth where shells replace sand
On the third day we met up with the whole group at the Overlander and from there continued on an amazing priceless experience
Thanks to all for your kindness
Ivo and Lucy
