It was my first trip as trip leader. Decided to do the trip from Ledge Point to Breton Bay as I hadn’t been on these tracks before. We initially were going to meet at the general store but there wasn’t enough room so we all met down at the car park near the access of the boat ramp.

I was aware that it was low tide until about 5pm so it would be easy access driving on the beach.
Once everyone met and there were a couple of new faces (including my wife who had come along for the ride and for moral support but she didn’t realize she would be helping with the navigation !!) , we then aired down to around 15 psi and then proceeded to go down the beach. It was public holiday long weekend, so we had to be mindful of children and people fishing and that there were also a few like minded people like us 4x4ing out for the day.

Proceeded down the beach looking for access into the first dune system to have a play up and down and around some of the sand bowls there.
It was suggested that we group together at the top of one of the sand dunes for group photos etc and watching other 4×4’s getting unbogged whilst not offering assistance as they looked like they had it under control where they got out successfully.

After that we proceeded through the dune system heading south and I decided to go back onto the beach again where I noted 100m down the beach I could go no further as there were some rocks jutting out into the ocean. I noticed that there was an access back into the dunes. I told everyone to stay back until I had a clearer look but unfortunately I got bogged turning into the access to the dunes. Dave came to my rescue and then suggested that my best route was to go forward up this steep short incline but I got bellied out near the top of the incline.

Lin had tried to reverse out of where she was, as she was 3rd in line, but sadly, she had gotten stuck herself, and needed recovering.

Richard and Naomi managed to come around by another track and tried to unsuccessfully winch me out (2 broken recovery tracks later). Simon and Diane came to my rescue as they had a stronger winch and Richard and Naomi went behind Simon’s car as an anchor where they finally got me out after some time.

In the meantime, there was a group from the north going south, we were able to let them bypass us. we managed to move on and found a clearing were we decided it was a good time to have lunch and let the group behind us over take and carry on with their day. Whilst grouping for lunch Diane came back from her walk on the beach with a semi new boogie board and nearly a cray pot!!
We then went south exploring another sand bowl and dunes etc, noting a few campers out at some good spots camping/ fishing.

Wayne attempted to go up a big sand dune but got bogged near the top where Richard and Simon went to assist in his successful recovery after some time, whilst Dave had the drone out and took some good photos.

Tried to re group before departing to go home where Simon and Diane attempted a steep hill with little run up, and thus got bogged x2 trying to drive up it (even the experienced get bogged!) they gave up in the end but managed to self recover with his boards after 3-4 attempts.

Decided after that, it was time for the group to head home. Decided to drive back on the beach but noted that there were a few people now getting bogged even one towing a camper trailer.

Back to public car park without any dramas aired up and said our goodbyes.
It was a fun day out even though, the trip leader got bogged twice.
Hope everyone had a great day.
