The Huts, July 2024

Attendees:

Naomi and Richard (Pajero)

Matt (Pajero)

Lin (FJ Cruiser)

Tony (FJ Cruiser)

Group met at Cnr of Old Yanchep Road and Haddrill Street on time and aired down ready for an early set off.

As indicated in the trip notice, this was Tony’s first outing in the FJ.  His goals were:

  1. Learn a bit about the FJ’s capabilities (thank you Lin 😊)
  2. Not getting stuck in sand (a constant for Tony in the Ranger), and
  3. Not scratching the FJ on its first outing (failed at that ☹)

As with the usual Hut visits, we meandered along until we got to the first hut, Ridges, with Richard providing Tony with directions.

Surprisingly there was very little rubbish, but one of the hinges on the door to the Throne was noted as broken.

The stop gave us the opportunity to take a snap of the two FJs, same, same but different.

We then proceeded to Moitch Hut.  Along the way we took the opportunity to tackle both High Hill and the S Bend. We all made it up both, with Tony’s excitement levels at “Extreme” as this was the first time he had ever made it up High Hill.

Once we arrived, the weather started changing, got overcast and the temp dropped as we stood there.

So after a short break for a slice of cake, (thanks Naomi) and a mini-muffin (thanks Lin), Richard and Matt helped Tony test out the winch on the FJ.  Note: not only test, but teach – Tony has never owned a vehicle with a winch before.

It worked – but will need some “adjustments”.

While it was quite a short, sharp trip, I think we all enjoyed getting out.

A big THANK YOU from Tony for his learnings during the trip. And for those who have asked, yes he is a bit of a Toyota convert now

My thanks to all those that attended.
